Design
The best place to start our evaluation is with the overall design of the G Pen Elite. Handheld vaporizers are designed to be portable, durable, and easy to use. But does the Elite fit those criteria?
Ergonomic design
The outer shell of the G Pen Elite is easy to hold in the palm of your hand and ergonomically shaped to feel like a natural fit. Plus, indentations on the side of the device make you confident that it won’t slip. The device is made of plastic, but it feels sturdy, durable and high-quality. There are no glass components or removable parts, decreasing the risk of accidentally breaking the device during transportation.
Large capacity
The improvements made to the Elite vaporizer, in comparison to the previous versions of the G Pen, make it stand out from the rest of the lineup. Grenco Science added to the G Pen Elite the largest ceramic chamber they have ever used, with capacity to hold up to 0.11 cubic inches of ground-up herb. That means that the Elite can hold a massive amount of dry herb in comparison to other portable vaporizers.
However, the massive chamber could be a downfall for some vapers. If you prefer to micro-dose, then the large chamber capacity could cause uneven heating, even with convection heating. The chamber is located rather close to the mouthpiece as well, which can make the vapor warm on the inhale. However, if you are not powering through sessions this slight design drawback does not tend to be an issue.
Useability
The best portable vaporizers not only offer good vapor production, but are easy to use, easy to clean, and have intuitive controls in a durable shell. That might seem like asking for a lot, but many portable vaporizers easily meet this mark. How does the G Pen Elite stand up against these standards?
Highly durable design
The G Pen Elite is without doubt extremely portable. The durable plastic casing and seamless design protect the Elite against being damaged when dropped. The LED display incorporated into the side of the device allows you to see the temperature and check the battery level, without the need to use an app.
It fits easily and comfortably in your hand, and can also slip inside a large pocket. The chamber is easy to load since all you have to do is remove the mouthpiece. But the position of the chamber near the mouthpiece does mean that you have to clean it after every session. Thankfully, Grenco Science included a cleaning brush for that purpose, as well as a few other essential items.

Intuitive design
The G Pen Elite was designed to be very easy to use. The LED display leaves no guesswork involved when heating it up, and the three buttons are easy to navigate. You turn the device on by clicking the power button on the front of the Elite five times. You can adjust the device’s temperature with the two buttons on the side of the Elite, and then start heating the vaporizer by pressing and holding the button on the front.
The only potential drawback we see is that the G Pen Elite is only designed to be used with flower. There are no alternative chambers or concentrates pods to add to the device, so you cannot vape concentrates or oils. Power
Portable vaporizers aim to pack the power of a desktop vaporizer into a convenient handheld device. However, some devices fall short when it comes to battery power and temperature control. And others can overheat if they are pushing out too much power or are not charged correctly. So, where does the G Pen Elite fall on that spectrum?
Rapid heating
The G Pen Elite heats up quickly, in as little as 30 seconds. You can adjust the device’s temperature to anywhere between 200 degrees Fahrenheit and 428 degrees Fahrenheit, or use the power button to view the temperature in Celcius instead. The G Pen Elite offers the ideal range for vaporizing flower and retaining flavor in the vapor. The ceramic chamber uses coilless, convection heating to get your dry herb evenly heated to the desired temperature. The G Pen Elite is especially great for vaping at lower temperatures to avoid harsh hits.
Pass-through charging
Another convenient feature of the G Pen Elite is pass-through charging. That means that if your battery life is running low, you can plug the device in and still continue vaping. However, the Elite does not come with a wall charger, so you have to charge up while connected to another device with a USB outlet. Another potential downside is that the Elite does not have a removable battery, meaning there is no option to have a second backup battery ready if your current one runs out of charge. It only takes three hours to fully recharge the G Pen Elite though, which is not that long at all. When fully charged, the G Pen Elite can last anywhere between six and twelve five-minute sessions depending on the temperature the device is set to.

Overall, the G Pen Elite does offer advanced features that are intuitive to use, and it’s extremely portable. The Elite is discrete to use on the go and easy to load, with just one removable piece. It is also extremely affordable when it comes to dry herb vaporizers.
