Ghost MV1 Vaporizer Review

Ghost MV1 Vaporizer Review

Ghost Vapes introduced the concept of portable desktop performance with the MV1 Vaporizer. The iconic electronic herb and extract vaporizer sets itself apart with advanced technological features and has attracted the attention of many influencers in the vape world for a variety of valid reasons. The MV1 is the only dry herb vaporizer built to medical standards, so you can trust that it will provide the best vaping experience possible — once you know how to use this advanced device.

Pacing

As someone who prefers to vape, you usually have two options for heating your precious cannabis herb or concentrate. The first, most common method is a vape device powered by conduction heating. Conduction heating is efficient at first but can lead to residual burn-off. This can make your first few hits vaporful, and your last few hits tasting like you’re smoking microchips. The MV1 utilizes the alternative, but more rare, method of true convection heating. This method heats the air around your cannabis flower or extracts, allowing for more consistent vaporization.

What does this mean for your vaping experience though? With the MV1’s on-demand convection heating element, you can heat your vape and its contents when needed. Its haptic feedback will alert you when it is at temperature and ready to hit, in a matter of seconds. The advanced, patented Heat Exchanger built into every MV1 allows the device to heat and hold the temperature for extended sessions. Ghost’s technology also allows MV1’s chamber, known as the Crucible, to stay cool between hits. This thoughtful feature extends the material life of your device, prevents overheating of your precious cannabis, and will save you money in the long run. In comparison to the standard dry herb vaporizer, the MV1 holds about 0.1 grams to 0.15 grams at a time, but this will last you much longer thanks to its efficient technology.

Power

The MV1 also boasts top-of-the-line power efficiency, with the incorporation of a high-capacity, removable battery pack. Ghost Vapes has brilliantly combined the advantages of third-generation vaporizer mods with the convenience of second-generation vape pens.

What does this mean for your vaping experience? Less charging between sessions. Although this vape doesn’t have passthrough charging capabilities, that will matter little in comparison to the extreme battery life. The battery pack has its own, dedicated circuit board to safely convert power efficiently. This works well with the heat exchanger and heat sink elements of the MV1 to reduce power consumption and increase your device’s battery life. Forget charging on the daily, the MV1 will be powered and ready to hit on-demand for days at a time. When you do need to power up, the MV1 can be charged via a micro-USB cable, which takes about eight hours to get to full power, or with an external charger, which takes about two hours. A fully charged battery pack can power through eight crucible bowls, or around 50 to 60 draws, depending on the temperature you set your device.

Purity

What makes Ghost’s MV1 portable vaporizer stand out above the crowd is the vapor it delivers. Ghost Vapes accomplished this feat by focusing on making this portable vape to medical-grade standards, with no shortcuts. The MV1 is made entirely of medical and food-grade materials, combined with true convection heating technology to provide the purest of vapor. There is also no chance of charring or combustion thanks to their proprietary heat sink element. You can truly taste the difference. The MV1’s vapor is cool, flavorful, and potent every time you take a hit.

How does it work?

Ghost’s MV1 can be tricky to get the hang of, but once you get in the MV1 groove it is difficult to put it down again. We recommend referring to your user guide often at first to get a grasp on the various settings. The MV1 accommodates three different consumption styles — single draw, session, or micro-dosing.

Single Draw.  For a single draw, you can load your crucible and heat the device in 10 seconds and then take the prime 10 to 15 second draw. You can also adjust the MV1’s retractable mouthpiece by pulling it out to increase airflow or retracting it to restrict it until you find your sweet spot of resistance.

Session Mode.  To host an MV1 session with friends, the process is the same for heating and set up, all you have to do is pass the vape along. This device heats and holds temperature like an industrial oven, efficiently and effectively, so you don’t have to worry about having enough power for a whole session. However, depending on how potent you and your friends like your sessions, you may have to reload the crucible. Ghost thought of the perfect way to work around this as well, with the crucible dispenser accessory. This holder can contain five 0.1 gram crucible bowls, ready to load when you are.

Microdosing.  If you prefer to vape less than 0.05 grams at a time, also known as microdosing, the MV1 has your back all day. Since this portable vaporizer uses on-demand heating, you can take a small hit and the device will leave your cannabis untouched afterward. You can load a 0.1 gram crucible bowl and expect five to 12 hits over the course of a day.

Pro tip: This portable vape will perform best when the bowl is fully loaded, but it can also be finicky if you overpack it with cannabis flower. A medium, fluffy grind of your favorite strain will produce the best vaping experience with the MV1. Ghost recommends not stirring your bowl between hits, but we found that to be almost impossible without a perfectly packed bowl.

The MV1’s design is innovative and attractive, encased in a metal alloy body. It is durable and portable, although cargo pants are required to carry it in a pocket. The MV1 stands at five inches tall and over two inches wide. At a weight of 12 ounces, you can feel the durability and quality in the way it fits your hand like a glove. You have the options of Stealth Edition black, Satin Silver, Rose Gold, or Nickel, all of which look lovely in our humble opinion.

Final thoughts

Ghost’s MV1 portable vaporizer provides a premium experience that is best managed in the hands of an experienced vaper. It has quite a learning curve for new vape users and may be frustrating to navigate at first. However, the advantage of all-day power, ability to host social sessions or microdose, and the smooth, thick vapor is well worth the effort. This advanced technology does come at a price of around $225, so it may not be a great fit for those who only occasionally vape or are looking for a budget-friendly vaporizer.

It is also important to note that according to TVape, as of April 10, 2020, Ghost Vapes has closed their doors and the MV1’s on the market are the last of their kind. This also negates any warranty associated with your device. The MV1 also comes with Ghost’s app, which allows you to customize temperature, lock out others, control multiple MV1s, download firmware updates, and buy some accessories. However, this app became restricted to Apple users in 2019 and is currently only available for Android smartphones. The MV1 can still work without the app, but this feature does help set the vape apart.

With all things considered, we still think it’s worth adding Ghost Vape’s MV1 to the collection if you are looking for the purest, medical-grade dry herb and extract portable vaporizer experience.
